Just the Right Decorations

Betta fish are playful fish and will get bored and unhappy without anything to play in/with. Your betta fish will be happy with or without gravel, so the choice is up to you. If you do choose to add gravel/marbles/jewels to your tank, make sure there is no more than 1 inch. Avoid chemically treated gravel, as this messes up the water and may cause harm to your bettta fish's health.
Wash the gravel thoroughly before laying it in your fish's tank.Run it under hot water to remove dust and other contaminants. Make sure the water is clear and do not use soap as that will add chemicals to the gravel.
Arranging your betta fish tank is lots of fun! What you would like to put in it is your choice. Decoration provides shelter for the fish, as well as interest, and magnifies the beauty of the rest of the tank for you to enjoy. But here are a few precautions:
  1. Make sure that whatever you put into the tank is well washed.
  2. Do not put anything sharp in the betta's tank. Betta fish can swim very fast and if there is anything sharp they run into, it will cut them.
  3. Don't put anything in the tank that your betta can get stuck in. Betta fish are very agile, but they can only squeeze through holes a little smaller than themselves.

Betta fish love to play, as mentioned earlier. Some suggestions for your betta fish's fun are:

  • Hamster wheels
  • Hamster tubes
  • Mirrors
  • Pretend/real plants

You can also add a scenic background to the aquarium.
